Spamalot is Super

Orpheus Theatre's Once Again Brings Out A Hit

March 13, 2014

Running now until March 16, 2014, Spamalot is a wonderful, funny show, full of talented local performers. The show is "lovingly ripped off from" the 1975 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

My husband and I took our seven and eleven year old this past weekend and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the performance.  Knights, swords, and a cast of hilarious characters make this a show everyone will love.

The musical follows the trials of King Arthur and his servant/horse, Patsy, as they wander the countryside in search of candidates to join the Knights of the Round Table. In spite of receiving no respect from anyone, including his subjects, eventually Arthur recruits a motley crew including the strangely flatulent Sir Bedevere, the dashingly handsome Sir Galahad, the homicidally brave Sir Lancelot and Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot.Musical numbers range from a Vegas show to a disco. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, the actors poke fun of themselves and the musical genre. With a large cast and several big production numbers, the talent stands out. In particular, Patsy, (played by Réjean Mayer) is entertaining as King Arthur’s servant, Lancelot’s (Dennis Van Staalduinen) musical number in the second act will have you rethinking his place in history, and the Lady of the Lake (Andréa Black)  steals the show with her talent and range.

The show is family friendly, but there is language parents may find objectionable. If you’re looking for a fun family outing, Spamalot is sure to make everyone happy.
