We are once again thrilled to be sponsoring the super family-fun Ottawa International Children’s Festival (OICF). This amazing event highlights all the things children (and Macaroni Kid) love; creativity, imagination, whimsy, families, and fun.
Back this year with a new look and a new date (May 9-14, 2014) the OICF is offering visual and performing arts with prehistoric proportions!
Since 1985, the OICF has existed as a community-based program to surround young people with excellence in the performing arts that: engages instinctive creativity, excites boundless imagination and encourages individual expression. The Festival offers world-wide caliber performers right in our backyard.
This is a very popular Festival for schools, so please share this information with your child’s teacher. Part of the mandate of the OICF is to create a variety of programs for children aged four to fifteen, focusing on enriching school curriculum and promoting the arts as an integral part of children’s education.
For the next few weeks, look for your chance to win tickets to upcoming shows. First up, we have a family four pack of tickets to ERTH’s Dinosaur Zoo, Saturday, May 10 at 5pm. The show stars a cast of large-scale life-like dinosaur puppets, developed in consultation with paleontologists, and based on the most up-to-date science and specialist interpretations of fossil evidence. Audiences meet a menagerie of dinosaurs — plus insects and mammals — that once inhabited our planet.
To enter, you must be a Macaroni Kid subscriber. Email me (saralynne@macaronikid.com) with "ERTH" in the subject heading. Winners will be announced in next week's issue.
Also new this year is the addition of spontaneous site performances throughout the festival grounds. As always the Festival will offer many free on-site activities, highlighting art, music, literacy, movement as well as workshops, games, face painting and more!
Tickets for the Festival are $13 per person, or you can choose your three favourite shows by purchasing a 3-Show Package (any 3 shows) for $33.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased through the festival office by calling 613-241-0999, by visiting the office at 294 Albert Street, Suite 602, Ottawa (Mon-Fri, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm), through the Festival website or on-site at Lebreton Flats Park, May 9 through May 14. These shows usually sell out, so please call early to avoid disappointment!
