OPL: Storytimes with Cubetto to Celebrate Family Literacy Day

Register Early!

January 19, 2023

January 27 is Family Literacy Day, first introduced by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999.  This day focuses on the importance to encourage learning to read and write as a family and to highlight that family literacy is a key factor in childhood skills development.

At the Ottawa Public Library (OPL), we have a full week of activities planned at several of our branches, from January 21 to 27, so that every family can come together and enjoy special storytime sessions with a Cubetto.

What’s a Cubetto?

Cubetto, from Primo Toys, is a wooden robot, which can be used to teach children as young as three introductory coding skills. The robot follows a route on a map predetermined by blocks with different shapes and colours placed on a control board, which can be used to tell a story. With Cubetto, kids can develop logic, reading and motor skills and learn about coding, no screens required!
