A few weeks ago, my husband and I snuck away for the day to Nordik Spa Nature. Like many of you, it was a long winter and we needed a break from the kids. Nordik Spa Nature was the perfect place to relax, recharge and reconnect. Since our last visit during the winter over a year ago, the Spa has expanded offering new facilities and food options.
Located just outside Gatineau Park, only 10 minutes from downtown Ottawa, Nordik Spa-Nature is the largest spa in North America which includes seven exterior baths, eight unique saunas, a salt-water floating pool, an infinity pool, numerous interior and exterior relaxation areas, and a restaurant and lounge.
This relaxation and healing centre offers a multisensory experience in a surrounding natural setting and is aimed at contributing to the health and well-being of its guests.
Visiting Nordik Spa Nature is a great daytime (or evening) getaway, girls activity, wedding shower or moms-to-be treat or a couples activity. There are many packages available for different groups and outings. Rates start at $63/day. (My hubby also mentioned there were groups of guys there, so it's not just for ladies only.)
For my hubby and I, it was a chance to truly and deeply relax. Sitting in the pools, looking and the beautiful scenery, listening to the soothing music and the quiet, you can't help but feel calm. People chat quietly, or in some areas, not at all, giving the feel of privacy and serenity. There are a variety of seating areas from beds, lounges, chairs and hammocks in private or public groupings, so you have many options to read, chat or take in the sun.
Lunch options include tapas or a la carte in one of their four dining areas. We had coffee at the Mezzo Cafe and lunch at the Resto, both offering fresh, healthy and filling options.
One of our favourite things is the Källa treatments. Källa is a large floating salt-water pool five metres deep into the rock which contains 10 tons of Epsom salt in 1,200 cubic feet of water. Nordik Spa-Nature’s Källa pool is only the second of its kind in the world, the other being in Switzerland.
If you’ve ever experienced the Dead Sea, you’ll appreciate floating in Källa even more. Here, only the most carefully selected and balanced magnesium salts are used. The water’s absolute purity and 12 percent salinity are constantly monitored, and the pool’s filtration systems exceed current standards. You can add this treatment to the thermal experience for only $40.
Because the Spa is so close to Ottawa, we were able to drop the kids off, head over for the day and pick up the kids at the end of the day. If you are looking to take a break this summer, consider visiting Nordik Spa Nature to unwind. You won't be disapointed.
