Holiday PJ Party at the National Gallery

It’s a PJ pARTy for the whole family! Celebrate the start of the holiday season by joining us under our magnificent Christmas tree, decorated with hundreds of ornaments and some 10,000 lights. Visit with Santa, learn about snowflakes, make a paper gingerbread house and get ready for winter with a tour of seasonal artworks. Need to catch your breath? Sit back, relax and watch The Grinch – the 1966 original – on our big screen.

Art Making: Gingerbread house activity — 10 am – 4 pm

Candyland comes to life in this build-a-paper-gingerbread-house activity.

Santa Claus! — 10:15 am, 12:45 pm, 3 pm

Santa Claus is coming to town! While the elves are hard at work up at the North Pole, Santa Claus is at the Gallery reading a story by the Christmas tree.

Ottawa Suzuki Strings — 10:30 am – 12:00 pm,  1:00 – 3 pm

Enjoy mini concerts featuring violin, cello and guitar students ages 5–14 from the Ottawa Suzuki Strings music school. There is also a “string instrument petting zoo” that offers children a hands-on experience trying violin, cello and guitar under the expert guidance of Ottawa Suzuki Strings teachers.

Spend family time surrounded by your national treasures.

Gallery Tour: Winter is coming! — English: 11 am, 12 pm, 2 pm

Get inspired by log cabins and snowy tree tops in the galleries. Then create a winter drawing, complete a scavenger hunt and discover a rainbow of colours in snow!

Watch Dr. Seuss’s famous story of the Grinch who plots to steal Christmas from the townsfolk of Whoville.

Explore materials with hands-on activities. It’s never too early to get into art!

Winter Wonders with Scientists in Schools — 10 am – 4 pm
Studio 1
Delve into the wonderful world of winter and embrace the cold! Conduct cool experiments and learn some frosty facts about how people and local animals adapt to winter. Become a meteorologist and investigate winter weather!
