Our Picks for the Best Winter Break Fun in Ottawa

December 19, 2019

It's Winter Break. That means family, friends and two weeks of the kids at home. Looking for ideas to keep the kids happy and get 'em tired? Here are our picks for super-fun things to do over the break.

Tire the kids out with a scavenger hunt. Look for the many elves, hidden in and around the Canadian Children's Museum. Maybe they will be soooo tired, they will go right to bed???

Get some candy (and learn something new). VIsit the Kuujjuaq Christmas Candy Drop at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. Check out this unique way the holiday spirit is celebrated up North.

Trees and Lights. Enjoy the beautiful Trees of Hope at the Chateau Laurier (and maybe a spot of high tea) then cuddle up in the car and enjoy the Magic of Lights at Wesley Clover Park.

Get Germ-y - Visit the Museum of Nature and check out the new exhibit Me and My Microbes: The Zoo Inside You.

It's Magical at the Museums - All three Ingenium Museums (Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, Canada Aviation and Space Museum and the Canada Science and Technology Museum) offer special holiday programming over the break offering activities your kids will enjoy.

Go Sens Go - Watch the Sens in action (for Free) during their annual holiday gameday experience with an open practice for the fans.

Make a monster marionette - Enjoy some time at the gorgeous National Gallery and take the kids to the Artissimo studio for craft time.

Go for a skate - The Rideau Hall Rink is open and ready for a perfect family skate.

Free Escape Room - The OPL Alta Vista Branch has an escape room for kids 12-17 (and it's free)
