OPL Introduces New Curbside Returns & Pick Pp Service at 6 Branches

June 4, 2020

As part of a phased-in approach to a resumption of physical services, Ottawa Public Library (OPL) will soon begin a new curbside service for returns and holds pick up at six (6) branch locations:

  • Main branch,120 Metcalfe Street
  • Beaverbrook branch, 2500 Campeau Drive
  • Cumberland branch, 1599 Tenth Line Road
  • Nepean Centrepointe branch, 101 Centrepointe Drive
  • Ruth E. Dickinson branch, 100 Malvern Drive
  • Greenboro branch, 363 Lorry Greenberg Drive

To provide a safe environment for OPL customers and employees, clear signage will be at all six locations to ensure proper physical distancing.

Monday, June 8: Curbside Returns
Starting June 8, OPL customers can begin returning their Library items at the six branch locations, during the following days and hours of operation:

  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Returns will only be accepted at the six available locations and during these hours of operation. All book drops remain closed.

No appointments are required to return library materials. Signage at each of the six branches will clearly indicate the service point where to return library material.

Due dates on all checked out Library items have been extended to give customers ample time to return their library materials.

OPL cannot accept book donations at this time.

Monday, June 15: Curbside Holds Pick Up – by appointment
Starting June 15, OPL will begin curbside pickup by appointment for holds currently available (holds already on the shelves) at the six branch locations. To ensure the health and safety of its customers and employees, OPL will offer this curbside holds pick up service by appointment only. Customers will soon be contacted by email or phone with details on what actions they need to take for their holds and the next steps to schedule a pick up appointment.

Customers will be invited to reserve new library items after the initial backlog of holds currently available for pick up has been resolved.

Details of this new curbside holds pick up service can be found on OPL’s website.

Monday, June 15: Homebound Service deliveries resume
Delivery of Library items to regular homebound customers at private residences will resume, with new health protocols to be followed during the contactless deliveries. For information on how to sign-up for Homebound Services, visit our webpage: https://biblioottawalibrary.ca/en/homebound-services-0

All OPL branches and Bookmobile stops remain closed to the public.  The health and safety of our employees and customers remains OPL’s priority. The Library’s phased-in plan to resume physical services at the six locations takes into account physical distancing requirements, enhanced sanitary controls, and new protocols for both employees and customers. While OPL’s 33 branches and Bookmobile stops remain closed to the public, everyone can access the Library’s new and innovative virtual programs and enhanced eContent.

Ottawa Public Library continues to follow direction from the Province of Ontario and Ottawa Public Health to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
