The NAC Goes Digital with Virtual Musical Workshops for the Family!

November 12, 2020

Keeping the performing arts alive, especially for our young ones, is now more important than ever. The National Arts Centre Orchestra has partnered with Montreal’s JM Canada, to offer a series of virtual workshops and concerts for the whole family that can be enjoyed from your home.  The first segment of this series, an interactive and virtual activity for ages 4-8 along with their parents, is now on sale!

Get in the Holiday Spirit!

The art of song writing will be broken down into four workshops (November 22 to December 13), that will fuel your child’s creative minds, just in time for the holiday season. The winter song they compose in this workshop can be a perfect gift for relatives. The workshop series leads up to the virtual concert Le Grand bal de Noël (December 20), which also has the theme of song writing.

How Do the Workshops Work?

The four virtual workshops are offered in French or English, are on Sunday mornings, are approximately 25 minutes each and they start November 22. French workshops are on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m., English workshops are on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. Each interactive workshop will be led by a professional musician and will teach elements of the music your family will enjoy at the concert. The workshops are a combination of live host and pre-recorded performance.  When families sign up, they will receive a unique link to access their event the day before their event.  You only need access to the internet to join in the fun from any device: no downloads or webcams are needed.  None of the audience members will be able to see each other for privacy reasons.  If you miss a workshop in the series, you can easily catch up by watching the recorded session.  Access to all the recorded sessions in this series expire December 27, so your little ones can watch multiple times if they want!

Virtual Concert : Le Grand bal de Noël

For those of you who attended KinderConcerts at the NAC in the past, you may remember seeing Le Grand bal de Noël live – a hilarious tale of three musician penguins trying to get access to a party at the North Pole by creating their own original song. The production has been revived with a new set and costumes and professionally filmed. The virtual version of Le Grand bal de Noël will be on Sunday, December 20 and will be presented in French only.

The National Arts Centre will be rolling out more workshops and concerts for young audiences in the near future with themes on singing, and percussion – so stay tuned on more options to come!
