Introducing our Newest Family Member - Jarvis the Dog

November 12, 2020

It's been a busy few days.

Last Sunday we welcomed our new puppy home. Jarvis the dog is now firmly ensconced in our house. There have been many changes, most of them good.

I always said I didn't want a dog because of the time, effort and expense. I have enough trouble looking after our kids, home and work, and didn't think I had anything else to give. I'm happy to say, I was wrong.

Now, it could be we lucked out with this puppy. It's been less than a week, but his temperament is calm and chill and he is really, really good. He is a quick learner, a good listener, he gives great cuddles and seems to be a lap dog (at least for now).

The biggest change, is that while he takes a lot of time, he is loving and super cute. My boys (all three of them) are completely besotted. Our youngest son is getting up early to take him out and has endless amounts of patience and time to give to Jarvis. Our older son is on night duty, so after he finishes his school work, he takes the late shift, with my husband overseeing the whole process.

Our kitchen table has been relocated to the garage and our tiled eating area is now where the pen and crate are residing. Our house has been puppy proofed and someone is "on duty" during the day to take the puppy out and keep an eye on him (a benefit of everyone being at home).  He is settling nicely into a routine and we are all using the same terms and phrases to help him get used to things.

While I am still a bit overwhelmed at this new addition, I can't help but love how happy he is making our family, and that makes me love him too. My kids have reduced their screen time (at least so far) for puppy play time, taking him outside, running with him and tiring him out. They marvel at his discovery and take pride in his accomplishments.

We begin our first session with Carol the Dog Trainer this weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing how we all do with that.

More to come. You can follow our adventures on on FacebookInstagram or Twitter as we share our experiences.
