The Ottawa Children’s Festival de la jeunesse (OCF) has missed you, but they are back this June, welcoming audiences virtually! OCF has chosen three productions from nationally and internationally renowned artists for everyone to enjoy from wherever you are! The Festival takes place June 2-7, 2021 and will be FREE to view.
In addition to these incredible, professional productions, each has a series of activities and/or study guides to strengthen curriculum links. Cyclo, a co-production by Compañía Aranwa and Comedia Köln Theater (Chile and Germany), is a non-verbal performance that celebrates of the cycles of life using music, dance and instruments from Mexico, Central, and South America. The Snail and the Whale by Tall Stories Theatre Company (London, UK) is about a girl and her father reimagining the tale of a snail’s incredible trip around the world. This performance is only offered in English.
Old Man and the River by WeeFestival Productions (Canada) is a tale of a grumpy old man whose life changes when a magical creature leaps into his world. Educational resources for this non-verbal production are available in English and French.
Instructions will also be made available on how to have a Watch Party with your students so that you can all enjoy the adventures together!
Two of OCF’s amazing sponsors are also sharing special programming for audiences to enjoy! As a pre-festival kick-off, Big Jump Entertainment will have beloved Canadian author Judith Henderson do a live streamed reading of a book from her popular series, entitled Big Words, Short Stories (now a show on TVO Kids). WPBS will be presenting their newest PBS Kids series Donkey Hodie, a puppet series inspired by the quirky, funny side of Fred Rogers. Donkey Hodie and her friends empower young viewers to follow their dreams and to solve challenges in their own lives. Both special programs will have a Q&A portion for viewers to engage and ask questions!
