I've been putting off writing this article for a few weeks, but the time has come to share some news...
After 11 years as editor and publisher of Ottawa Capital Region Macaroni Kid, I'm stepping down and ready to pass the reins to someone new.
It's been a very tough decision to make. I LOVE Macaroni Kid and it has been such a privilege to share the best family fun in Ottawa for the past 11 years. This is my other baby, my third child and one I'm super proud of.
When I started, my kids were four and seven and I had recently moved to Ottawa from the United States. Macaroni Kid was started by two amazing moms in the Hamptons who had this idea to create hyperlocal websites and newsletters so parents could share their community fun with other moms.
When I knew we were moving to Ottawa, I reached out and asked them if I could start a Macaroni Kid in Canada, and well, the rest is history.
Over the past 11 years my family and I have explored museums, galleries, sports facilities, local stores, shops and restaurants. We have attended performances, tried new experiences, worked with amazing local business owners, met celebrities, reviewed books and been guests of some amazing local sites. I've been blown away by local businesses dedicated to creating opportunities for families and honoured to have helped connect families to the best family fun and family opportunities Ottawa has to offer.
Macaroni Kid allowed our family to try new adventures, travel, vacation, meet amazing people and learn new things.
My boys are now 15 and 18. One is finishing up grade nine and one is in his second year of university. The time has come for our family to move on to new adventures in a less public forum.
I am so incredibly grateful to the local businesses who took a chance on me and who have worked with me over the past decade. Ottawa is an incredible place to raise a family and we have been so lucky to meet so many amazing people at our local community centres, libraries, restaurants, shoe stores, soccer fields, hockey rinks, performance spaces and more.
Now the opportunity part. We are looking for a new publisher to take over Macaroni Kid and take it to the next level. If you love to write, are creative, love to explore and go on adventures with your kids, are curious and like to have fun and meet new people, then this is an opportunity for you.
