Hip Hop Culture Takes Centre Stage!

Tickets start at $15.

The NAC is bringing hip hop and theatre together, as the inaugural NAC Hip Hop Theatre Festival takes centre stage.

The Festival will host ten events over 11 days, featuring two concerts from Popular Music and Variety’s Fridays At The Fourth series, two free panels, and the spoken word presentation The Old Black Maple will hold two performances, including the second Black Out Night for English Theatre in 2023-2024.

Performances will encompass staged readings, panels, concerts, and virtual events, closing with the powerful rap battle Cold Heat, all aimed at broadening our perspective on how we view and experience theatre at its core.

The Spirit Horse Returns

February 11

Travel through time with Indigenous knowledge keeper, Jodi Contin, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra, sharing stories of the "small horses of the deep woods." Learn about the historical and cultural role of the Ojibwe horses, serving as traditional helpers and spirit guides for First Nations and Métis-Chippewa people.

Featuring songwriter Jodi Contin, writer/performer Ken MacDonald, and the visual artistry of Rhonda Snow, conductor Naomi Woo guides the orchestra through a narrative unfolding the history of Ojibwe horses and their cultural significance amidst events like the Gold Rush and Pony Express.

The Spirit Horse Returns is an age-appropriate exploration of truth and reconciliation. It blends a rich orchestral score, delightful songs, and traditional teachings.
