As part of its ongoing efforts to respond to community needs and to offer inclusive programming and spaces, Ottawa Public Library will be running a trial for a new program for children. Sensory Storytime is for children who live with developmental disabilities and/or autism. These programs will be offered monthly starting in September at multiple branches across the city. Select branches of the Ottawa Public Library will be hosting a monthly Sensory Storytime. During this program there will be opportunities for open play and a chance to connect with other families. The circle time portion of this program is offered in the last 20 minutes of the session. A family member must be present for the duration of the program.
This program provides a welcoming environment and respects the needs of children from 18 months to 6 years who live with developmental disabilities and/or autism, or who show signs of a developmental delay. Each program will feature dimmed lighting, sensory toys, a smaller number of participants and an adapted circle time with stories, rhymes and songs.
Drop-in program, no registration required.
