This weekend we went for a fun and festive walkthrough at Pumpkins After Dark in Wesley Clover Parks, Ottawa, ON. This well-organized event had something for everyone. Highlights for my children, ages 6 and 9, included singing jack-o-lanterns, photo stand-ins, and speakers playing popular Halloween songs like 'Who You Gonna Call?' and 'Scary Spooky Skeletons'. Light-up Halloween themed swag, Minecraft swords, and saber swords were available for purchase just inside the entrance. Hot tip, also available for purchase at the swag table were adorable Halloween themed earings made by an adolescent female entrepreneur. My daughter picked out bat earings to complete her 'Draculaura' costume!
For those looking for beverages and snacks there were several food trucks also just inside the entrance. Options included beaver tails, grilled cheese sandwiches, flavoured hot chocolates, and even milkshakes!
Without giving too much away, the carved pumpkin displays were nothing short of amazing. From fairy tail characters, pop culture classics, sea and mythological creatures, to social and cultural displays, the designs and creativity of these artistic carvings truly wowed all of us. Like a cherry on top of this illuminating evening, the not-so-full moon lit up the sky with an orange ominous glow.
With only one week left, this event is definitely worth adding to your family's list of Halloween traditions. Be sure to give yourself a little extra time to get parked (parking lot and traffic attendants were fantastic) and dress warm.
